British Virgin Islands & Covid-19

BVI drops Covid-19 entry test

 

From a press release issued today, 14 July 2022, the Minister for Health and Social Development announced that effective Friday July 15th, persons visiting the [British] Virgin Islands will no longer be required to present a negative Covid-19 test to gain entry.

The Cabinet of the Virgin Islands passed an amendment to the Covid-19 Control and Suppression (Entry of Persons) Regulation on July 13th that revokes Covid-19 testing requirements.

Minister for Health and Social Development Honourable Marlon Penn said that further relaxation of the Covid-19 Suppression measures is based on the reduced impact of the disease and the move from pandemic to endemic.

Honourable Penn said, “Currently the statistics are revealing that the virus is having a very minimal impact on those affected and the mortality rates have decreased significantly. That is why we feel at this stage we can re-open the borders and return to pre-COVID normal with regards to travel to the Territory.”

The Minister for Health is further urging persons to remain vigilant and continue to practice good hand hygiene and wear a mask when in questionable environments to reduce the risk of exposure.

The Covid-19 BVI Travel Requirements, updated on June 24, 2022, announced:

 

Effective 15th June, 2022, travelers, regardless of their vaccination status are no longer required to register and apply to enter the Territory via the BVI Gateway Travel Application Portal. Provision of evidence of travel insurance is also no longer required.

Coronavirus testing requirement lifted for flyers returning to USA

 

International travelers flying to the United States will no longer need to show proof of a negative coronavirus test before boarding their flights, the Biden administration said Friday, ending one of the last pandemic-related travel requirements. The requirement will end at 12:01 a.m. Sunday, June 12, 2022.

Many countries in the Caribbean have updated their entry requirements. For example, Grenada is fully open with no vaccination requirements, testing or quarantine. The USVI requires all travelers to register on the USVI Travel Portal but no test is required for fully vaccinated persons.The BVIs requires travelers to register on their Travel Portal but if fully vaccinated persons submit their negative covid test within 48 hours of arrival, they do not have to test again to enter the BVIs.

BVI COVID-19 UPDATE

for the

British Virgin Islands

 

 

Beginning October 1, 2021

 

• Fully vaccinated will no longer be required to apply for entry through the BVI gateway portal application.
• Vaccinated minors – travellers under the age of 18 who are travelling with vaccinated parents or guardians — will also be exempted from the BVI gateway portal while being subjected to similar stringent measures.
• Upon entry into the territory, each vaccinated traveller must provide the results of a negative COVID-19 PCR test or antigen rapid test that is no older than five days.
• They are also required to present valid proof of vaccination
• Partially vaccinated and unvaccinated travellers as well as unaccompanied minors (who are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated), or any other persons not covered by the fully vaccinated portal exemption protocols, will still be subject to using the gateway portal to obtain entry to the BVI.

[NOTE:  An antigen test is required on arrival to the territory at the current price of $50 per person.]

Excerpts from The BVI Platinum News, September 21, 2021

Beginning October 1, all fully vaccinated travelers to the BVI including cruise ship passengers and crew will no longer have to apply to enter the BVI using the BVI Gateway Entry Portal. 

Premier and Finance Minister Hon. Andrew Fahie made the announcement late this evening, September 21 during the Virgin Islands Party (VIP) radio programme. 

“You don’t have to worry about the portal at all if you are fully vaccinated and go through all these tests. You don’t even have to tell us you are coming, you just show up at the port you are leaving from with a negative test [no older than five days], proof of vaccination and you come and when you land you have to pay for the antigen test, right now its $50 per person,” he said. 

The Premier who said Cabinet made the decision today, pointed out that they have also commenced the process to address the issues with the BVI Portal to make it user friendly.

“Coming into the territory you don’t have to go through the portal anymore after the 1st October once you are fully vaccinated. Only fully vaccinated persons or any minor that is traveling with a fully vaccinated person. All other persons not in that category going to have to use the portal still, and that is in the process of being updated so it will be more user friendly,” he said.

Also, there are heavy fines attached to any passenger or carrier who breach the new rules. The transporter will be fined up to $10,000 per passenger and passengers will be individually fined up to $5000.

One thing of interest to BVI charter guests in the coming weeks is that the Cabinet decided that, in addition to existing measures, all vaccinated persons will be subject to a rapid test upon arrival, effective 12^th July, 2021, at a fee of $50.00.

 

 

The British Virgin Islands Minister of Health & Social Development, The Honourable Carvin Malone, issued a statement on June 10, 2021: Covid-19 Update and Adjusting Covid-19 Public Health Measures to Support Continued Safe Reopening.

Effective June 15, 2021:

• Fully vaccinated persons traveling to the British Virgin Islands from overseas will no longer be subjected to COVID-19 tests upon arrival.
• Rapid antigen Covid tests (as well as RT-PCR test) will now be accepted for entry if you are fully vaccinated.
• In addition, the Gateway fees will be reduced to $35 for these individuals.
• Fully vaccinated travellers will no longer be subject to PCR testing on arrival (day zero) and as a result, NO quarantine time would be required save for that ordered by a Quarantine Officer as a result of their entry screening.

International entry by pleasure boats is still not allowed.

Bahamas Modifies Covid Protocols For Vaccinated Travellers

The Bahamas Announces Updated Travel and Entry Protocols

 

New Rules in Effect for Vaccinated Travelers

April 23, 2021

 

The Government of The Bahamas announced updated public health measures and entry protocols for fully vaccinated travellers, stating: 

 

Effective May 1, 2021, international visitors travelling to The Bahamas from other countries who are fully vaccinated and have passed the two-week immunity period will be exempt from testing requirements for entry and inter-island travel.

 

 

Requirements For Vaccinated Travellers

 

Vaccinated travellers will still need to apply for the Bahamas Travel Health Visa and will be required to upload proof of vaccination (such a government issued vaccine record card) and ensure the name and date of vaccination(s) are clearly stated. They will not need to provide a negative COVID-19 PCR test prior to entry or submit to rapid testing mandates during their stay.

 

 

Requirements For All Travellers

 

All travellers will be required to apply for the Bahamas Travel Health Visa and complete the daily health questionnaire. All residents and visitors must adhere to health and safety protocols on-island such as mask wearing, social distancing and frequent hand washing among others. Health and safety remain their highest priority and we all must continue to be vigilant.

 

Please Note - Re-Entry to the US

You will need to get tested no more than 3 days before you travel by air into the United States and show your negative result to the airline before you board your flight. See CDC guidelines HERE.

BVI Modifies Covid Protocols For Vaccinated Travellers

BVI To Introduce New Travel Requirements For Fully Vaccinated Travellers

This is great news for yacht charters. Everyone still needs to have a negative test result before arrival, register with the BVI Gateway portal, and have a test upon arrival to the island. If you are fully vaccinated, once you get your arrival test result you are free of quarantine. Hurray! 

PRESS RELEASE - APRIL 23, 2021

 

Minister for Health and Social Development, the Honourable Carvin Malone, stated that effective May 15, 2021 fully vaccinated persons travelling from overseas would require a PCR test within five (5) days of travel, provide satisfactory evidence of being fully vaccinated, and will be subject to a PCR test upon arrival (day zero). Fully vaccinated persons will be quarantined until a negative test result is received from the BVI Health Services Authority.

 

The Minister said, “In other words, if the test administered on arrival returns a negative result, the fully vaccinated traveller will be immediately released from quarantine unless they have been in close contact with a positive case.”

 

Minister Malone explained that a person is deemed to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 two weeks after they have received both doses of an approved two-dose vaccine, such as AstraZeneca, Pfizer, or Moderna or one shot of a single-dose vaccine such as Johnson & Johnson.

Governor Bryan Issues New Restrictions For Travel and More

During Governor Albert Bryan's Thursday coronavirus press briefing he announced that effective immediately all bars in the territory are ordered closed, including bars located at restaurants, though restaurants are allowed to continue operating. Beaches will close at 4:00 p.m. on the weekends and holidays until further notice. Also, all retail facilities in the U.S. Virgin Islands are barred from selling alcohol after 11:00 p.m. Gaming centers and casinos are closed as well.

Concerning travel to the US Virgin Islands, Gov. Bryan announced seven additional states to his original hot spot list. The new list now includes states with a 10% positivity rate or higher. These states are: Arizona, Mississippi, Florida, South Carolina, Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Nevada, Idaho, Kansas, and Puerto Rico.

For passengers coming from these states, Gov. Bryan said a coronavirus test showing a negative result must be provided to local officials. The test must be conducted within five days, an expansion to Monday's order which called for tests to be conducted within 72 hours before the traveler's arrival to the territory. These tests will be required for travelers age 15 or older.

Protocols for Limetree Bay refinery and storage terminal employees on St. Croix have also been updated.

Mass gatherings of 50 people or more are discouraged.

Should the territory's positive cases continue to increase next week, the governor said his team is looking at the possibility of stopping hotel reservations again and going back to the “Safer at Home” designation.

US Virgin Islands Covid-19 Travel Restrictions

USVI Governor Bryan Issues Travel Restrictions For Individuals Traveling From Arizona, Florida, and Texas

Governor Albert Bryan Jr. said during his weekly COVID-19 update that beginning Monday, July 13, 2020 individuals who are residents of, or whose travel to the territory originated in Arizona, Florida, or Texas must present test results showing they are negative for COVID-19 or positive for COVID-19 antibodies upon their arrival into the territory.

Tests should be taken within 72 hours of arriving in the U.S. Virgin Islands or visitors can opt to take a test when they arrive. Individuals who do not show test results or take a test locally must go into a 14-day quarantine.

The Governor said the policy applies to residents of the three states on the list, or to individuals who have spent more than 7 days prior to travel to the territory in any of those states, and not to travelers who are passing through, such as to change planes in Fort Lauderdale or Miami.

After two weeks, the new travel policy will be reassessed to determine whether states need to be added to or removed from the list.
