A Different Charter Destination: The Arctic

And Now For Something Different

Wanting something new and off the beaten path? How about a charter in the Arctic? Check this out...

Explorer Yacht GREY WOLF
Arctic Adventure Itineraries: Norway and Svalbard

GREY WOLF, a 78-foot, custom designed motor yacht, offers a once-in-a-lifetime experience on a one-of-a-kind, ice class, explorer yacht. Expedition yachting is a chance to experience something edgy and extreme without sacrifice to luxury, safety and comfort.

Join GREY WOLF on an adventure in the Arctic North. Lofoten and the Svalbard Archipelago are a vast wilderness waiting to be explored by intrepid vessels like GREY WOLF, able to exit sea lanes and deviate from normal cruising routes. Charter GREY WOLF and make the journey as magnificent as the destination.

GREY WOLF navigates one of the most spectacular coastlines in Europe. It is a superb destination of natural wonders. Visitors photograph sea birds, porpoises and whales, and go hiking, fishing and exploring. Visit ancient villages and historic places. Each charter itinerary is customized to include the sites and activities desired most. The crew has outlined some of their favorite ports of call below.

Norway’s Lofoten Islands: Favorite Ports of Call

  • Tromso: Board GREY WOLF in this charming city. Meet your crew and get situated in your cabin. Get underway immediately following a short orientation and safety briefing.
  • Andenes/Senja: World famous for whale spotting.
  • Radrsund/Trollfjord: A spectacular narrow channel between vertical cliffs is home to magnificent Orca whales.
  • Reine: A picturesque village and perfect starting place for hiking and exploring.
  • Digermulen: This stunning anchorage tucked into a mountainous fjord is a spot for hiking, fishing and exploring.
  • Nusfjord: Hidden between towering cliffs, this historical fishing village is a cultural gem.

Svalbard Archipelago: The Heart of the Arctic Wilderness

Imagine cruising through the Arctic Ocean, well north of the Arctic Circle. You gaze across a vast wilderness to spot polar bears, whales and walruses. Svalbard's islands lie midway between continental Norway and the North Pole. It is the most rewarding place to view arctic wildlife.

Kayak in bays with tumbling glaciers, search for walrus on ice floes, or venture into the tundra. Aboard GREY WOLF, guests explore a largely inaccessible coastline in the comfort and luxury of a private yacht.

Encounter what is rare and precious in the heart of the arctic wilderness

Longyearbyen: Board GREY WOLF in this high arctic settlement to depart on a one/two/three-week Svalbard expedition. The focus is on wildlife and wilderness. The itinerary may include any of the following ports of call:
  • Seven Islands: These mountainous islands offer wildlife viewing and fascinating human history.
  • Moffen Island: A wildlife sanctuary to hundreds of walruses and polar bears.
  • Kvitoya: The most remote island is also a lively wildlife habitat.
  • Aklefjellet: Bird Mountain is home to some 100,000 pairs of BrĂ¼nnich's guillemot that nest in the cliffs.

  • Smeerenburg: Whaling port with a history dating back to the 16th century.
  • NY Alesund: Historic research settlement with the most northerly post office in the world.
  • Diskobukta: The nesting site of black-legged kittiwakes and home to arctic foxes.
  • Isbukta: Be on the lookout for the rare Sabine’s gull, skua and bearded seals and polar bears.

The charter yacht SINGLE STAR, offers fly-fishing and wildlife enthusiasts an ultimate Alaska adventure trip with their eco-tourism cruise.

Charter Yacht SINGLE STAR - Alaska adventure wildlife, fishing, nature watching, photography and historic cruises

The charter vessel SINGLE STAR, a 58-foot trawler, is available out of Kodiak, Alaska. The boat accommodates up to four guests in two cabins, each with ensuite head/shower. For fishing, SINGLE STAR has an 18-foot fiberglass flats boat with 40HP motor.

The Kodiak Archipelago, which includes the Kodiak National Wildlife Refuge, has an abundance of wildlife, sea-life as well as world famous fishing. This is a large group of islands about 30 miles from the Alaska Peninsula and 158 miles across the Gulf of Alaska from Homer, Alaska.  The archipelago is about 177 miles long and encompasses nearly 5,000 square miles (about the size of the state of Connecticut),

For fishermen, the area offers fabulous fishing of both Salmon and Halibut.  The advantage of a fishing vacation aboard SINGLE STAR is that as fish move from stream to stream depending on water temperatures, the boat moves with them.  Access to the remote rivers and estuaries is easy with SINGLE STAR's flats boat.  Captain Lee Robins is a certified FFF instructor so whether you are a novice needing instructions or an old hand at fly fishing, you are sure to have the time of your life.  For fisherman wishing to keep their catches, SINGLE STAR is equipped with a large deep freeze to keep the catch frozen until returning to port and packaging for shipment.

For the wildlife enthusiast, SINGLE STAR offers professionally guided wildlife photography and eco-tours around Kodiak Island and the Katmai Coast. This area is famous for the amazing amount of wildlife, moderate temperatures and stunning scenery. Watch the sea otters, sea lions, seals, fox, rare waterfowl, ducks, humpback whales, killer whales, fin whales, bald eagles, coastal brown bears and fox. The month of May you’ll find the nesting sea birds hatching.  Your professional guide will lead shore side hikes to pristine wilderness sites for up close and spectacular photography opportunities.

WANDERBIRD returns to Cuelbra this winter

Wanderbird will be returning to the Caribbean this winter (2010/11 winter season), based in Cuelbra in the lesser-known Spanish Virgin Islands...

The Wanderbird is based in Culebra this winter for week-long cruises departing from and returning to this magical island.

It is incredibly beautiful around the Spanish Caribbean Islands. Snorkeling, climbing for fresh coconuts, pale blue warm salty water, amazing cute little seaside towns, roaming wild horses originally brought by the Spaniards on Vieques, iguanas and wild chickens on Culebra and post card beaches... life is good. Come join us!

Located about nineteen miles east of Puerto Rico and eight miles north of Vieques, Culebra is the smallest of the inhabited Spanish Virgin Islands. She is seven miles long and 3 miles wide. Her many beaches are some of the most beautiful in the world.

Culebra is an arid island, having no rivers or streams. She gets her water from Puerto Rico via Vieques. Because of the lack of run-off from streams and rivers, Culebra boasts crystal clear waters with sixty feet of visibility on a bad day.

Culebra is an island municipality under the domain of Puerto Rico, which has been under the protection of the United States, since its annexation from Spain in 1898. In 1909 the Culebra National Wildlife Refuge was established. The refuge takes in over one thousand four hundred acres of land and is well known both as a nesting area for numerous seabirds, as well as the endangered leatherback turtle and Culebra giant anole.

Culebra has about three thousand residents. The quiet, unspoiled island has little to offer in nightlife, except for a quiet, safe walk in the moonlight or the occasional sound of guitar music from one of her few night spots. The island has little crime and very little to do, but relax at the beach or your favorite watering hole. The snorkeling and scuba diving around Culebra are outstanding. Hard and soft corals abound in the shallows and magnificent reefs encircle the island. Tropical fish and other sea life abound. The depths rarely exceed one hundred feet.

Come with Wanderbird on a sea adventure to explore the Caribbean island of Cuelbra (winter 2010/11) with your hosts Captains Rick and Karen. Share their dream of life on the sea on their renovated 90-foot Dutch fishing vessel, the WANDERBIRD.
