Today we feature the catamaran Dreaming On. Geoff & Iza have kindly provided an update about chartering in Belize... Take it away, guys!

Belize has taken very organized steps to control the spread of COVID. Case numbers are still low and land, sea and air border controls are regularly modified as required. The vaccination program is proceeding well. The Government has just passed a new rule that requires anyone requiring access to a Government Building, either to provide proof of vaccination or a negative test result taken with the previous 72 hours.

 

Southern Belize has the distinct advantage that it is so much less crowded than the popular and very busy areas of Belize City, Ambergris Caye and Caye Caulker, so, in our opinion, much “COVID safer.”

Traveling from Belize City International Airport to Placencia has always been easy on either Maya Island Air or Tropic Air, our local commuter airlines.

 

However, with the recent opening of a new road connecting the airport directly to the Western Highway avoiding the outskirts of Belize City, the road travel time to Placencia is now 2.5 to 3 hours. This gets people out of the airport quickly and into a safer, more controllable social distancing environment. The drive also takes guests through some wonderful, forested mountain scenery, with an optional stop along the way.

 

There are some wonderful jungle lodges along the way to break the journey as an option and we can offer some great Surf and Turf packages.

 

The other advantage of taking the road trip is the door-to-door service. The driver meets guests at the International Airport Arrivals and delivers them directly to hotel or yacht in Placencia. No waiting around in the main terminal for commuter flight connection or rechecking bags on and off a commuter flight, then a taxi.

 

Southern Belize offers spectacular turquoise waters, amazing snorkeling, superb scuba-diving opportunities, reef fishing, deep water fishing, (no Ciguatera in Belize) and magnificent fly fishing.

 

Placencia is a wonderful small village with many choices of eatery and bars when ashore. So much less busy than Ambergris Caye in the north.

 

The number of international flights operating to Belize has expanded with the addition of Alaska Airlines and Frontier Airlines.

Dreaming On is a 47-foot Leopard catamaran with an owner-operator crew of two, Geoff & Iza, who have fallenl in love with Belize. 

 

Dreaming On is fully air conditioned and accommodates up to six guests in 3 Queen cabins each with ensuite heads having shower, sink/vanity, and an electric-flush toilet. The salon is roomy with an all around view and a 'U'-shaped, fully appointed galley. With an abundance of deck space and the large trampolines up forward, guests have many areas to roam and relax.

Dreaming On is based at Roberts Grove Marina, just 10 minutes from Placencia’s airport, and our offshore base is Funk Caye, 16 miles offshore in the fantastic turquoise blue waters close to the 165 mile-long main barrier reef. (The world’s second longest). We also have a helipad on Funk Caye!

Our cruising area in the southern cays is magical. Very few other boats around, many cays to choose from and a guaranteed caye to ourselves every night.

Snorkeling is phenomenal. Thousands of patch reefs in protected water inside the main barrier reef, and again, wherever we snorkel, we will be the only boat around and our guests, the only people in the water.

We have hundreds of wonderful opportunities for Kayak exploration around the cays and over crystal clear reefs. Same for Stand-Up Paddle Boarding. Imagine standing on a paddle board over a natural aquarium. Southern Belize has it all.

The offshore cays of Belize are mostly uninhabited, except for a possible seasonal fishing shack. However, there is a choice of interesting beach bars and eateries available in the cays as an occasional change from life on board Dreaming On.

Several cays are in the process of development now, with some very high-level resorts planned. Ideal for our charter guests to visit when complete.

We usually spend our nights at uninhabited cays, well away from the mainland, and with no other boats around and no artificial light contamination, the amazing night sky is yours to behold. Our (amateur) on-board stargazer is here to help you identify constellations and planets.

CATAMARAN DREAMING ON: Inner Barrier Reef and Cayes itinerary for Belize Yacht Charters

INNER BARRIER REEF & CAYES ITINERARY

There are multiple itinerary options for charters commencing from The Placencia Resort and Marina in Belize. Dreaming On has prepared two sample itineraries for our purusal.

• The Atoll itinerary heads north to one of the channels through the barrier reef, to take us to Turneffe Atoll and Lighthouse Reef. (Click Here)

• The Inner Barrier Reef and Cayes itinerary takes us in a circle through the inner deep water channels, amongst the cays with some anchorages just inside the barrier reef as well as some sailing along the barrier reef. The Belize Barrier Reef and the many cays inside and atolls outside are famous for their fantastic diving opportunities. (See below)

All of Dreaming On’s itineraries include great diving opportunities. We can arrange Rendezvous Diving on request with local, professional dive organisations for any divers on board. Diving with a local dive organization, whose Dive Masters dive these waters every day, ensures that our guests enjoy the best possible diving experience.

INNER BARRIER REEF & CAYES ITINERARY

Day 1 – Depart The Placencia Marina on a reach to Rendezvous Island. Great place to snorkel and anchor for the first night.

Day 2 – Sail up the inner channel to Blue Ground Range. Then work our way east through patch reefs to anchor for the night just inside the barrier reef at South Water Cay. Great snorkeling and rendezvous diving opportunities here as well as just north at Tobacco Cay and near Carrie Bow Cay. This is all part of the Belize Marine Reserve. There are three restaurants on the cay. Guides can also be arranged for flats fishing.

Day 3 – Through the cut in the barrier reef for a down wind sail along the reef to Gladden Cut. Fish along the way for a chance to catch Mahi Mahi, Wahoo or Tuna. Anchor inside the reef at Gladden Cut.

Day 4 – Sail to Ranguana Cay where there is more snorkeling and an opportunity for a rendezvous dive.

Day 5 – A sail north on the inside of the reef will bring us to the Queen Cays (also known as Silk Cays). There are restaurants on both Ranguana Cay and Hatchet Cay (near the Queen Cays)

Day 6 – A day exploring the local cays with some more snorkeling.

Day 7 – After a morning snorkel or rendezvous dive we can sail to Placencia Village where guests can go ashore and experience a bit of village life. Placencia’s famous “Main Road” is a 3 foot wide concrete path meandering through the sand, passing lots of little local shops and restaurants . A few minutes spent on this “Road” and you will probably meet everyone in Placencia!

Day 8 – Our final morning involves a short sail back to The Placencia Marina

ATOLL ITINERARY

Day 1 ‐ Depart The Placencia Resort & Marina sailing North up the inner channel to Blue Ground Range. Day 2 - Through the South Water Cut and set sail to Turneffe Atoll. There is good snorkeling here and exploring the waterways throughout Turneffe with a dinghy or kayak is very interesting.

Days 3 to 6 - We continue on to Lighthouse Reef and drop anchor on the west side of Long Cay. Arriving at Lighthouse Reef early in the week will allow us to spend up to 3 days at this amazing atoll. Take advantage of the fabulous rendezvous diving opportunities along the Lighthouse Wall. Advance divers can arrange to dive the Blue Hole. Another option is to take a shore excursion to Halfmoon Cay to see the Bird Sanctuary. The wall at Halfmoon Cay also offers beautiful diving.

Day 7 ‐ A downwind sail from Lighthouse to the Barrier Reef. Anchor just inside the reef at Tobacco Cay.

Day 8 - Our final morning will be a sail back to The Placencia Marina.

Sail Belize - Charter Catamaran Dreaming On

After several years of chartering in the Virgin Islands, catamaran Dreaming On is moving to Belize.

Discover Belize - Charter Yacht Catamaran Dreaming On - Sailing Vacations in Belize

Their plan is to leave the BVI in the first week of June 2015, make their way through The Turks & Caicos and Bahamas, and then arrive in Fort Lauderdale, Florida in mid-July.  They will head down to the Florida Keys and towards Belize, by way of the Yucatan Channel, to arrive in Belize, weather permitting, in early August.

Dreaming On's Belize charter calendar is open from 1st November 2015 and they already have their first Belize charter booking for the week of New Year 2015/2016, plus options on a couple of other weeks in 2016.

As soon as Geoff and Iza arrive in August, they will be out there searching for those special places that offer outstanding scenery and snorkeling.  They promise to take photos both above and under the water and, of course, fly their Phantom drone for some outstanding aerial footage.  We will keep you posted – stay tuned and follow our blog.

Getting to Belize

There are regular scheduled flights into Belize City from Houston, Dallas, Atlanta and Miami, with United, American Airways and Delta, then a short local flight from Belize City to Placencia.

The airport at Placencia is being expanded to international status and we are advised that Jet Blue and Spirit will be flying into Placencia Airport by the end of 2015. We will keep you updated on this as information becomes available.


Belize Base

Dreaming On's base will be at The Placencia Resort Marina, at Stann Creek, just north of Placencia. The Placencia is the perfect location to enable us to offer a wide choice of attractive itineraries to suit all tastes and charters of varying lengths.

Charter Catamaran DREAMING ON : Valentine's Special

The charter yacht DREAMING ON, a 47-foot Leopard catamaran, has a Valentine's special for any 7-night charter occurring between February 7-19, 2013.

The catamaran Dreaming On is fully air conditioned and accommodates up to six guests in three cabins, each having Queen-sized berths, flatscreen TV/DVD, and of course, private ensuite head/shower. The cockpit offers plenty of room for lounging and dining.

Children aged 10 years or younger sail for FREE on 7-night or longer charter! (Limit of one free child per charter)

Dreaming On is equipped with plenty of water toys to keep everyone entertained.  Toys include: 13-foot center console dinghy with 30hp outboard, waterskis, kneeboard, stand up paddle board, windsurfer, tube, wake board, two one-person kayaks, floating mats, beach games, fishing gear, double hammock and even a floating island!
