We had a family of five recently aboard the charter yacht MAROLANGA, a 43-foot Catana catamaran, and we'd like to share their after-charter guest comments with you.

We just got back from our week with Gus and Marcela and we had a great trip. There are probably a few logistical things we might change next time, but overall we loved the trip. Gus and Marcela were terrific and the Marolanga was a great boat. We would definitely recommend them.

Charter motor yacht TRILOGY - Great Lakes itinerary

The motor yacht TRILOGY will be available for yacht charters in the Great Lakes this summer 2010.

m/y TRILOGY at the Bay Harbor Yacht Club, Michigan

TRILOGY is a 90-foot Stephens motoryacht that went through a total refit in 2007.  Trilogy has four crew, is fully air conditioned and accommodates up to 8 guests in 4 staterooms.  The master and VIP are each full beam staterooms and equal in size, each with private bath and jacuzzi tub. Two additional guest staterooms have twin berths and ensuite heads with showers.

• RATE:  $29,500/week, plus expenses

Captain Mike Witters has created the following scenic and entertaining 7-day charter itinerary for Trilogy this summer in the beautiful Great Lakes.

Day 1: Arrive Traverse City, Michigan                                                                                
Your Captain will meet you at the airport and escort you to the city docks where you will board Trilogy.   Settle in and relax. After lunch, cruise to the quaint antique fishing village of Northport on the western arm of the Leelanau Peninsula.

Day 2: Cruise to Charlevoix, Michigan
Here are shops, art galleries and restaurants to enjoy. Afterwards, take a leisurely ride down Lake Charlevoix to Boyne City, do some water skiing or tubing along the way. The golfers will have an opportunity to hit the links at Boyne Highlands or any of the other nearby golf courses.
 
Day 3: Bay Harbor
Leave Charlevoix for a short cruise to Bay Harbor, a quaint man-made community (similar to Vail, CO), known for its upscale lifestyle. Horseback riding, 27-hole championship golf course, fine dining and exclusive shops are just a few examples.
 
Day 4: Harbor Springs
Cruise to the historic resort town of Harbor Springs (somewhat comparable to Nantucket), long time summer home to some of Michigan’s wealthiest families.
 
Days 5 & 6: St. James Harbor and Mackinac Island
From Harbor Springs we proceed North and either head over to St. James Harbor on Beaver Island and spend some time there, or continue under the Mackinac Straits Bridge to historic Mackinac Island. There are no cars on the island; transportation is provided only by bicycle, horseback or horse-drawn carriage. Take a bicycle trip around the island (8 miles), enjoy touring the historic two forts, or visit the town’s many artisan shops.  A visit to the Grand Hotel, boasting the longest outdoor open air porch in the world, is always a delight.
 
Day 7:  Les Cheneaux Islands
Take a picturesque excursion through Les Cheneaux Islands. Spend the night at a remote island anchorage and return to Mackinaw City for your departure from Pellston, a short ride from the Mackinaw City Marina.

If arriving by private jet one can fly into Mackinaw and finish up in Leland

We received comments back from a couple we had aboard the charter yacht PHAEDRUS recently.

We have really wanted to comment on our cruise, since we had such a marvelous time.  Please excuse our tardiness on this, but in the spirit of better late than never...

We very much enjoyed our stay on Phaedrus.  Charles and Leslie were outstanding hosts.  They combined an amazing knowledge of the area with an ability to make us feel completely at home on their boat.

To say that the food was excellent, is a supreme understatement.  We were treated to fine three-course dinners with great wines.  Lunches and breakfasts were up to the same standard.

Phaedrus is an exceptionally well-maintained yacht that shows clear pride of ownership.  The sailing was fantastic and it was so nice to let Charles and Leslie worry about the navigation while we enjoyed the ride.

We snorkeled almost every day in wonderful spots.  It is clear that our hosts’ extensive local knowledge paid dividends.

We look forward to another charter on the Phaedrus.

Azores Adventure Charters aboard THE DOVE this summer 2010

We recently received an email from Captain Larry Tyler after his 54-foot charter yacht, THE DOVE made landfall in the Azores.

"THE DOVE has arrived here in Faial, Azores. The trip took 17 days from St Martin. The first 12 days we had little wind and sometimes no wind at all and the little we had was on the nose, so we were forced to sail North to nearly the same Latitude as Bermuda after which we had 5 days of gales which are still blowing now. But we flew along doing 200 miles a day!!!!

"We saw a number of whales, lots of dolphins, many, many Logger Head turtles and thousands of Portuguese Man O'War jelly fish - I love watching them sail over the waves.  Went swimming a couple of times mid Atlantic with the jelly fish and the turtles, I looked up from taking photos of a turtle to find The Dove was slowly sailing away and Jenny had gone down below. I can't even start to imagine what it must be like to fall overboard.

"Great to have arrived though, and not have to try to sleep at 45 degrees. I'm sitting here now at the saloon table checking my emails and listening to the wind outside howling in the rigging of all the yachts that are here while the boat hardly moves. Bliss..."

PROMENADE - RECIPE: Kahlua & Baileys Cheesecake

Kerry shares one of Promenade's favorite dessert recipes with us:  Kahlua and Baileys Cheesecake

Mmmmmm, save one for me, please!

Kerry says:

I mix in a grinder/food processor one large package of McVitie's Digestive cookies until fine crumbs. Then I put it in my pan, and pour about a 1/2 cup to 3/4 cup of melted butter over it and mix it all up. That makes the crust. The originial recipe only calls for 5 oz of butter, but what can I say, I like butter!

For the filling: Blend together:

• 4 eggs
• 24 oz cream cheese
• 1 cup brown sugar
• 5 TABLESPOONS (or so!) of Baileys Irish Cream
• 1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Dissolve a few teaspoons of instant coffee (I use espresso) in a few tablespoons of Kahlua and add to mixture. Pour over crust and bake at 350°F for about 40 minutes until set.

Top with whipped cream and drizzled chocolate... Although you could take heavy cream, whip it some, then put in a bit of Kahlua and sugar, and you get Kahlua cream which is even better!
