Charter Yacht HANALEI BAY - Guest Comments / Reviews

Would you like to escape the wintry weather? These folks did!

HANALEI BAY is a 72-foot cutter, owned and operated by Franz & Dianne Gradler. Hanalei Bay is a large, spacious sailing yacht which accommodates up to 6 guests in three ensuite staterooms.
It is barely 48 hours since we disembarked from Hanalei Bay and we are ready to turn around and come back! There are some obvious reasons for our desire to return -- the New York weather is frigid; when we want to eat or drink, we have to serve ourselves; exercising isn't outside and aboard a kayak but on a basement treadmill instead;and there's no one continually checking on our overall level of satisfaction!

Each of our six family members, ranging in ages 6 to 80, had an exceptional vacation aboard the Hanalei Bay.  Despite the wide age range, you managed to create a vacation week that met and exceeded our expectations.  While your depth of culinary and sailing experience was evident, it was your fun company and your genuine desire to 'please' us that made for a wonderful experience.  Whether it was satisfying the diverse taste buds of our children or finding an afternoon activity that everyone was interested in participating in, your careful and considerate planning made each of us genuinely enjoy ourselves.

Thank you again for a wonderful week aboard the Hanalei Bay.  We hope we can return again and remember, if you should find yourself in the New York area, you have an open invitation.

With warm regards,
Elle
Thanks for sharing you comments with us, Elle.

Crew Change on Charter Catamaran REACTION this spring 2010

We are sad to announce that Ian & Polly will be leaving the popular charter catamaran REACTION. But, we are happy that they will be crewing another catamaran that Paradise Connections represents, the 60-foot Privilege, Sagaponack, which will be chartering in the Mediterranean this summer and returning to the Caribbean for the winter 2010/11 season.

Ian & Polly would like to introduce Reaction's new crew:
We are delighted to introduce you to the new crew of Reaction who will be taking over on April 19, 2010, Shaun Miller and Kelsey Van Beever. They are a lovely young couple who are extremely well suited to Reaction in terms of their energy and enthusiasm for the job and their caring attitude towards their guests. They are both divers and love the outdoors. They both come from big sailing families (Shaun's brother runs a charter cat and Kelsey comes from Antigua) and have had a lot of experience in the yacht industry. Shaun and Kelsey are great crew and we are certain that they will be able to fill our shoes with no problem at all.
A bit more about Shaun & Kelsey from the crew's profile:

Shaun's passion for sailing began during his childhood in the beautiful oceanside city of Durban, South Africa. As a child, he took advantage of every opportunity he could to be on the water -- from dinghy racing in school, to keelboat racing at the weekends, and deliveries up and down the coast of South Africa. After spending 2 years abroad, he could no longer resist the pull of the ocean and began his career as a professional captain in the charter industry. Since then, he has travelled everywhere from the east coast of the United States, to the Caribbean, and the Mediterranean.  Shaun's love of boats, however, is not just in sailing -- he also spent some time working as a boatbuilder in Antigua, which has given him an in-depth knowledge of the finer points of a yacht and how to keep it looking its best. Shaun is an MCA commercially endorsed Yachtmaster and is a PADI Dive Master.

Kelsey, born and raised in Antigua, one of the Caribbean's most prominent yacht havens, is no stranger to the industry. Her grandfather, Desmond Nicholson, sailed from England to Antigua with his family at the end of the Second World War and was a pioneer of the charter yacht industry. Growing up on a Caribbean island, Kelsey was lucky enough to spend as much time in the water as out, and has been swimming and sailing for as long as she can remember. After working as a sushi chef on land, a charter chef on daysail yachts, and even as a snorkel guide in Alaska, it was a natural progression for Kelsey when she met Shaun to work together with him as chef/first mate of a charter yacht.  Kelsey's passion for cooking began during her childhood and has developed into a profession over the last five years. Kelsey takes pride in preparing her food that is as beautiful as it is delicious and specializes in seafood and Caribbean-style cooking -- lots of color and lots of flavor.

Together, Shaun and Kelsey make an exceptionally enthusiastic and upbeat team.  Shaun is always happy to let you take a turn at the helm and try your hand at sailing. He loves to show people his favorite snorkeling spots.  And, after a day of fun in the sun, sit back and relax with one of Shaun's signature captain's cocktails with a delicous appetizer from Kelsey's galley.

Whether you want an action-packed adventure or a relaxing break from daily life, a trip aboard Reaction with Shaun & Kelsey will be the vacation of a lifetime!

Charter catamaran DOUBLE EXPOSURE in Florida

DOUBLE EXPOSURE is a 40-foot catamaran with a crew of two, based in Miami/Key Biscayne and charters in the Florida Keys. Scott and Cara grew up in this area and know all of its secrets!

Double Exposure is available year round and moored just a short taxi ride from Miami International Airport. Pick up and drop off can be anywhere between Miami and Key West.

Cruising the Florida Keys with a shallow draft catamaran such as Double Exposure makes it easy to navigate these waters. The mangroves of Biscayne Bay and the Florida Keys provide great kayaking and also the newest craze... fishing from kayaks!

With reasonable charter rates starting at $4500-$7500/week, along with the ease and cost of domestic travel, make her an easy choice for those who wish to sail Stateside. In addition, Double Exposure offers daily rates for shorter getaways.

Snorkel gear, floats, kayaks, and fishing gear are provided. Dine on lobster, fresh fish, and shrimp on the BBQ. Scott & Cara will be more than happy to share their secrets on how to prepare local cuisine.

Here's an idea... Plan your charter around the famous Full Moon Party that takes place on Morada Bay Beach, Islamorada. This monthly get together includes fireworks, live music, bonfires, and is an excellent venue for people watching :)

Charter Yacht ANTILLEAN - Guest Comments / Client Reviews

Here are comments we received from recent charterers aboard Antillean, a 50-foot Beneteau sloop, in January 2010.

Hi Sheila and Bob,

Stephanie and I returned from VI yesterday.

Our trip was absolutely outstanding. We thoroughly enjoyed every minute.  The Antillean is exceptionally capable and extremely well maintained.  We were able to handle her in all conditions and enjoyed the thrill of the high winds to the sublime gentle runs downwind.  Antillean performed extremely well and we felt very comfortable in the capable and knowledgeable hands of John and Heidi.  It is remarkable to see two people who can work so collaboratively on board without a word and make everything appear so effortless.

I also want to note that John and Heidi are master hosts!  Our meals aboard were all at a level of 5 star hotel.  We absolutely love Heidi's meals.  Heidi could just as easily be the master chef in any of the top NY restaurants -  bar none and it was an absolute pleasure to have her all to ourselves.

Quite simply, every aspect was perfect - music, wine, snorkeling, hiking, day dreaming, reading, or talking to John about various aspects of boat handling and maintenance.  With most of his life on the water through the navy and cruising, John's knowledge is encyclopedic!

And of course there is Smee.  What a wonderful character and lovely traveling companion.  We became so attached to him - its incredible.  We miss his cheerful commentary and can't stop talking about him.  No boat should be without the wonderful company of a parrot.

Thank you very much for recommending Antillean.  We are delighted!  We feel fortunate to have found you and followed your recommendation.

Best,
Aydin and Stephanie
Thanks, Aydin & Stephanie, for your photos & comments.

She offers the perfect Charter experience and can accommodate up to twelve guests. She has two hammocks, three kayaks, swim ladders, snorkel equipment, and a 40HP tender for water sports.

ONE WEEK NASSAU AND THE NORTHERN EXUMA CAYS

The Exuma Cays lie in an all but unbroken chain from Beacon Cay in the North to the islands of Great and Little Exuma in the South. They form possibly the most beautiful cruising ground in the Western Hemisphere. Settlements are small and picturesque, the people friendly and courteous.  The water is crystal clear, a vivid rainbow of blues, and beneath the surface lies a treasure trove of coral reefs and schools of fish to charm even the most seasoned snorkeler.

DAY 1. Nassau – Rose Island (12 nautical miles, about 1.5 hrs)
Take a dip and unwind in the cool blue ocean, snorkel out to a nearby shallow reef, or simply walk along the powder-white beach.

DAY 2. Rose Island – Allen’s Cay (44NM, about 5.5 hrs )
The Allen’s Cay grouping contains the well known Leaf Cay; one of the few remaining habitats of iguanas in the Bahamas. A dinghy ride to this unique spot is a “must do”. Standing quietly, guests will be charmed to see first one and then another iguana come forward to get a closer look. In a matter of minutes, the beach will be dotted with 20 to 30 of these odd but loveable creatures poised silently in the sand. Swim or kayak in the sheltered turquoise waters off this special island.

DAY 3. Allen’s Cay – Hawksbill Cay (22NM, about 2 hrs 45 mins)
An uninhabited cay owned by Exuma Park, has numerous soft sand beaches on both the western and eastern shores of the cay. The waters along the northern shore and in the southern cove of the cay are very shallow and ideal for snorkeling.

DAY 4. Hawksbill Cay – Staniel Cay (25NM, about 3 hrs)
This small island is known for its hospitality and Thunderball Grotto, one of the most outstanding snorkeling attractions in all of the Bahamas. While this hollowed out rock has been the location for the James Bond movies Thunderball and Never Say Never Again and also Splash, it lures snorkelers to enjoy a natural fishbowl...swim in at slack low tide (when the current takes about an hour break from its normal fast run), and enjoy many varieties of colorful fish, corals, sponges and other sea life. Weave through the grotto’s many entrances and passageways, escape to the outside through its holes. Gaze skyward when inside the amphitheater to see light streaming through the roof where rain has eroded natural skylights.

DAY 5. Staniel Cay – War derwick Wells Cay (12NM, about 1.5 hrs)
Considered to be the most popular cay in the Exuma Cays Land and Sea Park. The colors are awe inspiring and make this a lovely spot to moor while dining.

DAY 6. Warderwick Wells Cay – Shroud Cay (20NM, about 2.5 hrs )
An uninhabited cay owned by Exuma Park, is an archipelago of cays and rocks surrounding a shallow tidal mangrove salina which serves as a unique nursery for conch, crawfish (lobster), sea turtles, birds and many varieties of fish. Creeks are best explored by kayak as only non-motorized vessels are permitted to enter these pristine shallow estuaries that all dead-end in the mangroves.

DAY 7. Shroud Cay – Nassau (55NM, about 7 hrs)
After a relaxing breakfast, we will be under sail and heading back up to Paradise Island and Nassau Harbour. Even if you have no interest in the Atlantis Hotel, the Casino, or the beaches here, it is surreal to just observe the structure of this scale. The Aquarium, alone is worth the visit. There you’ll marvel at a walk-through tunnel surrounded by a reef, a glass-sided fish domain and the ‘Atlantis Dig,’ an archaeological fantasy world surpassed only by your imagination.

Charter the SPANISH Virgin Islands with ELIZA

SAIL TO NEW PLACES - The Spanish Virgin Islands - A Wonderful Cruise on the Ocean 80, charter yacht Eliza.

Visit the unspoiled beauty of Vieques, Culebra and Culebrita.  These three islands are a within easy sailing distance of Puerto Rico, but offer uncrowded anchorages beautiful beaches with great snorkeling fun sight seeing and extremely friendly inhabitants.

Meet Eliza in Fajardo which is close to the Conquistador Casino, and only a one hour drive from the San Juan Airport.  Sail to Cuelebra and see its sights and quaint town.  Sample the deserted beaches and snorkeling.

Sail to Culebrita (little Culebra) and anchor near the half-moon pristine beach.  Climb to the site of the oldest operating light house in the Caribbean.  Swim in the "Jacuzzi" a series of large boulders and pools washed by the seas.

Next stop is Vieques, the largest of the islands, which at one time was used by the US Navy for aircraft target and bombing practice. Here you will find wonderful snorkeling with occasional eerie views of ordinance under water.  Take a guided kayak tour of Mosquito Bay, reputedly the home of the brightest collection of luminescent organisms in the world; after sunset marvel at the light in the water and make "snow angels"  while swimming in the warm waters of the Caribbean Sea.

The last stop on your cruise could be San Juan.  It is an experience to sail into San Juan along the north coast of Puerto Rico, outside the treacherous reef and into the protection of the three forts that guard the harbor entrance. All three are maintained by the National Park Service.  The narrated tour and reenactment are worth the trip. An excellent secure marina is a short ride from the forts. On weekends the skies above the fort are filled with many colored kites as people take advantage of the open spaces. The Old Town has been restored and is a fascinating place to tour. There are wonderful old buildings, small quaint eateries, several high end, high style clubs and restaurants bustling with San Juan's in crowd.

On departure day the Marina is but a short drive to the airport.

Here is an opportunity to charter Eliza without leaving US territory. There are many flight options at very competitive rates and you can still find unspoiled anchorages and beaches, interesting things to see and do ashore, and a superb crew catering to your every whim, fully prepared to coddle every member of your party. In short, can you think of a more perfect "Getaway" week?

SPECIAL PRICE:    $17,500/wk
Rates are for 6 Guests, all inclusive except dockage, special bar requests & communications

Charter Yacht ISLANDER Guest Comments

We have received nice comments from a family charter we had aboard the charter yacht ISLANDER.

Gina, Julian and I had a great time with Patti and Charlie. They are a great couple at accommodating the desires of the guest. Charlie is an engaging conservationist, amazing musician and very knowledgeable sailor. Pattie is a great cook, smarter than a fifth grader (as a teacher she can engage on any topic and any subject with knowledge of the subject matter) and kept Julian entertained with the cat BC!

We will sail with Islander again, no doubt!

Barney
And from an email sent to Islander:
Had a fabulous time with both of you! One of the best vacations ever! You both are amazing hosts and talented people. We miss you already! I want to come back now as I've just landed in snowy Chicago! We look forward to the friendship!

ISLANDER is a 50-foot Irwin ketch owned and operated by Charlie & Patti Avalos who have been sailing for 25 years, plus their feline crew... B.C. (Black Cat). Islander accommodates 2-4 guests.

Islander is pretty much booked solid through April 3, 2010, although there is a possibility of a 5-night charter March 21-26.

Islander has very affordable rates and Charlie offers sailing instruction either on an informal (free) basis, or with ASA certification ($140/student). Prices below are for an 8-day/7-night, all-inclusive yacht charter (BVI taxes extra) for winter & summer 2010.
  • 2 guests: $4900/wk
  • 3 guests: $5700/wk
  • 4 guests: $6200/wk
Islander is currently open for 2010 Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years charters.  It's not too early to start thinking about these dates!
